PRE-WRATH vs PRE-TRIB RAPTURE, consequences of Covenant or Dispensational Theology Hermeneutics, are reviewed and analyzed in light of applied biblical hermeneutics for accuracy of prophetic interpretation regarding "Tribulation" vs. "Wrath" during the "End Of The Age" 7-year 'Tribulation Period' as described by Jesus in Matthew 24:5-31 and Revelation 6, which categorize the initial period as "Tribulation" and the latter period termed "Day of the Lord" a time of God's  'over-flowing fury' of Wrath.

Jesus'  'Parousia'  or  'Coming' and staying presence is also demonstrated to continue from His initial appearance to "gather the elect"  per Matthew 24:29-31 through the period of His 'wrath' upon the unrepentant and culminating at the Feast of Atonement aka 'Judgment' followed by the Year of Jubilee aka Millennial Kingdom.

Dan. 9:24-27

24 "Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.

25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate."

              =========================================

*Confirm

Regarding Dan. 9:27: “He shall confirm the covenant” (70 periods of 7).

Confirm is from the Hebrew word higbir” (Hiph'il form of the verb Gabar) meaning “to confirm (a covenant), to strengthen”.

See: Hebrew / Geek Lexicon at www.blueletterbible.org, and "Covenant of the 70th Week"

However, the New American Standard (NASB) incorrectly translates “higbir” to the English verb: “to make” (“karat / poieo” in Hebrew / Greek) rather; than “to confirm” or “to strengthen”.

The NASB infers there was NO pre-existing covenant “to confirm” or “to strengthen”. This incorrect translation by the NASB literally changes Scripture, to it’s detriment.  "To make" is NOT synonymous with "to confirm".

NASB translation “to make” is used to heretically infer the Anti-Christ “makes” a “covenant with the people and the city of Jerusalem”, and consequently, causes major eschatological interpretation consequences!

This is Satan’s counterfeit at it’s best distorting God’s prophecy of Jesus’ Second coming!  The Pre-Tribulation interpretation uses this inaccurate translation to justify the Anti-Christ “making” a covenant with Israel; at the beginning of the 7-year ‘tribulation’ period.

It is imperative that a correct translation ‘to confirm’ or ‘to strengthen’ God’s covenant be applied, to show the importance of God’s continued covenant over the full 70 periods of 7s’ period; which includes “… the CITY OF JERUSALEM”.

Only God can “confirm” or  “strengthen” HIS COVENANT with “the people and the city of Jerusalem”.

Applied hermeneutics requires a clear and literal ‘in-context’ grammatical analysis to determine a passage of scripture’s exact meaning.

The key question here is verse 27 with the words "confirm" (gabar) and "covenant" (beriyth), wherein gabar in it’s hyphil form "Higbir" (used in original Hebrew scripture) means ‘confirm; confirm in reference to a covenant’; and beriyth meaning a ‘pledge’ or ‘covenant’, ‘covenant between God and man’.

It is also interesting that Gen. 15:18 uses this same word ‘beriyth’, aka ‘covenant’ in what is now termed the ‘Abrahamic covenant’.

Verse 27 is the final 1 period of 7 left in God's pledge to Israel and Jerusalem.

In verse 24 God had determined 70 periods of 7 upon Israel and Jerusalem; and He has applied 69 of these 7s as a sign of the Messiah's coming.

‘In-context grammatical interpretation and transliteration’ of Hebrew of words, applied to the remaining 1 period of 7 can only be referring to the 70 periods of 7 covenant.

However, when verse 27 reads "He shall confirm the covenant", this is in reference to the covenant / pledge God had made to the people (Israel), the Holy City (Jerusalem).  Obviously, God can only confirm His covenant with Israel and Jerusalem IF they existed.  This had not been the case from 70 A.D. to until the1948 formation of Israel and 1967 recapture of Jerusalem!

Now that they the people (Israel), and the “Holy City” (Jerusalem) exists, God’s’70 periods covenant / pledge’ will be completed.

i.e.  Just as the first 69 periods of 7 announced the Messiah, God has now initiated a completion of His full 70 periods of 7 covenant; for the final 1 period of 7 with His people and the Holy City:

Vs. 24b “To finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”

This is the ultimate purpose of God’s covenant / pledge.  In other words, a completion of God’s plan of redemption for mankind!

However, The Pre-Trib. interpretation of the antichrist  making a covenant is not supported either grammatically or hermeneutically.  This is a heretical change in Scripture from the word "confirm" to "make".

Satan cannot / would not confirm God's pledge / covenant between God and man, as stated in verse 24 for the final 1 period of 7.  This is Replacement Theology at its worst, resulting in eliminating the most profound prophecies related to Yeshua's Return.

Can you see how satan has virtually eliminated these 2 pledges by God to Israel, through this interpretation?  There is much more to this total topic, but this is a good start.

Praying for our "rightly dividing of the truth", that we may walk in His wisdom, led by His Spirit.

Daniel 9:27 Basic Literal Translation

And God shall confirm His covenant (of 70 periods of 7 upon the people and the city of Jerusalem) with them for 1 period of 7.  In the middle of this 7-year period bloodless sacrificial offerings of thank-offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings and meat offerings offered to God will cease; to the ends of the earth abominable detestable things make waste / desolate; God’s decree to accomplish complete destruction by the pouring out of His own anger / wrath.

9:27 BASIC AMPLIFIED TRANSLATION:

And God shall confirm His covenant of 70 periods of 7 upon the people (Israel) and the Holy City of Jerusalem with them for 1 period of 7.  In the middle of the 7-year tribulation period, offerings of praise and commitment to God will caused to be ceased by abominable / detestable things that make desolate and wasted.  All the earth will be destroyed as decreed by God by His wrath.

9:27 EXPANDED AMPLIFIED TRANSLATION

"AND He (God) shall CONFIRM* (strengthen) the (His) Covenant / Promise (of  70 periods of 7  - upon the people (Israel) & the city (Jerusalem) with many for one week (1 period of 7)."    (Only God can confirm the last 70th 7 of v.24) (69 -7s of v.25 related to Jesus' 1st coming) and in the midst of the week (7-year period) He (God) shall cause (allow) the sacrifice ** (sacrifices of praise; i.e. burnt offerings - not blood sacrifices for sin)  to cease (thru His permissive Will, allowing the antichrist’s activities to cause "Tribulation"  *** during Seals 1-6;  Rev. 6 & Mth.  24:5-29-31), and for the overspreading of abominations he (antichrist) shall make it desolate, even until the consummation  ("Day of the Lord & His Wrath" i.e. End of the Age), and that determined (God’s wrath upon breaking the 7th seal, and opening the Scroll listing the 7 trumpets and 7 bowls of God's WRATH) shall be poured upon the desolate ( i.e. the unrepentant during "tribulation").

          Exegesis Method of Scriptural Interpretation:

In an effort to understand Scripture accurately, Exegesis seeks to decipher a clear and literal objective meaning of a word or words, by applying an in-context, and grammatically-accurate study of the sentence, paragraph and overall topic, resulting in an accurate reiteration of the essential grammatical elements of a passage.

Likewise, Exegesis interpretations are not in conflict with other similar Scriptures in meaning, and in the context of its most prominent grammatical meaning.  Scripture interpreting Scripture is also applied with a view to avoiding conflicting interpretations, and to provide supportive interpretative meaning from that being derived.

          Isogesis Method of Scriptural Interpretation:

Isogesis seeks to avoid such objectivity in preference to substantiating a pre-conceived inaccurate meaning due to a theological bias.

Examples of Exegesis and Isogesis related to

Pre-Trib vs. Pre-Wrath Rapture:

Daniel 9:24-27 provides an example of Isogesis resulting in replacement of God’s covenant and deletion of related prophecy.  This then lends support for ‘Dispensational’ theology, and consequently ‘Replacement’ theology, where Israel has been replaced by the church and is therefore no longer relevant:

70-WEEK COVENANT Of DANIEL 9:24-27:  “70 periods of 7 are determined upon the people and upon thy holy city (Jerusalem), to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”

Jesus' 1st Coming (vs 25):  “Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be 69 periods of 7’s.

Jesus 2nd  Coming (vs. 27): AND He (GOD) shall confirm* (strengthen) the (His) covenant (of 70 periods of 7 - upon the people and the city - Jerusalem) with many for 1 period of 7

*Confirm:

Regarding Dan. 9:27: “He shall confirm the covenant” (70 periods of 7).

Confirm is from the Hebrew word “higbir” (Hiph'il form of the verb Gabar) meaning “to confirm (a covenant), to strengthen”.

See: Interlinear Hebrew / Greek / English Lexicon,

However, the New American Standard (NASB) incorrectly translates “higbir” to the English verb: “to make” (“karat / poieo” in Hebrew / Greek) rather; than “to confirm” or “to strengthen”.

The NASB infers there was NO pre-existing covenant “to confirm” or “to strengthen”. This incorrect translation by the NASB literally changes Scripture, to its detriment.  "To make" is NOT synonymous with "to confirm".

NASB translation “to make” is used to heretically infer the anti-Christ “makes” a “covenant with the people and the city of Jerusalem”, and consequently, causes major eschatological interpretational consequences!

This is satan’s counterfeit at its best, distorting God’s prophecy of Jesus’ Second coming!  The Pre-Tribulation interpretation uses this inaccurate translation to justify the anti-Christ “making” a covenant with Israel at the beginning of the 7-year ‘tribulation’ period.

It is imperative that a correct translation ‘to confirm’ or ‘to strengthen’ God’s covenant be applied, to show the importance of God’s continued covenant over the full 70 periods of 7s’ period which includes “… the CITY OF JERUSALEM”.

Only God can “confirm” or  “strengthen” HIS COVENANT with “the people and the city of Jerusalem”.  A covenant regarding Jesus’2nd coming prophecy to be fulfilled prior to His coming, just as in His 1st coming prophecy fulfilled regarding this passage of Scripture.

Note:  This Isogesis heretical interpretation, was based upon  ‘Dispensational’ theology, initially popularized by John Darby in the 1850’s which resulted in Pre-Trib and Replacement theologies, leading to the elimination of Covenant theology.

This heretical doctrine was then incorporated by C.I. Scofield into his ‘Scofield Bible’ and adopted by some theological seminaries.  The NASB and Ryrie Bibles, based upon the Scofield Bible, have perpetuated this pre-conceived inaccurate heretical theological bias

Whereas, the King James and New International Bibles adhere to the truth of Scripture’s original Greek words and meaning.

Peirasmos & Thlupsis  Vs.  Ebrah Hermeneutics:

Key Words Hebrew / Greek to English:

Harpazo:     Rapture / to Snatch / to Take / to Catch

Peirasmos:  Tribulation / Trials / Temptations / to Test, Try, Tempt.

Thlupsis:     Tribulation / Affliction / Persecution / Distress

Ebrah / Orges:  Wrath

Pre-Trib Isogesis Hermeneutics:

Rev. 4:1  “Come up hither” equated to infer Rapture

2 Peter 2:9  “the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation”: “Delivered” is equated as inferring rapture, and “Temptation” equated as wrath.

Rev. 3:10  “Kept from the hour of temptation”

“kept" is equated to rapture, and “temptation” equated as wrath.

Tested thru Trials  vs.  Deliverance from Wrath:

                    Introduction:

In Rev. 3:10 the phrase:  “I also will keep you from the hour of trial”, has been interpreted by some to be; “rapture” ; i.e. physical removal of Christians from earth, prior to the 7-year “Tribulation Period”.

However, the word “from / out of” is interpreted to infer the meaning of “rapture”.  Secondly, the words “trials / tribulation etc.”, are used in the interpretation as synonymous with the word “wrath” in order to justify our being “not subject to wrath” application, and thus an inferred rapture.

WRATH:

"Who delivers us from the wrath (Ebrah / Orges) to come…"  1 Thess. 1:10

"For God has not destined us for wrath (Ebrah / Orges) …. "  1 Thess. 5:9

Rev. 3:10-12;   Greek words & meanings:

Verse 10: "Because (as a result of) you have kept  (eteresas)  My command to persevere,

(eteresas; to keep God’s Word)

I also will keep (kargotereso) you

(kargotereso;  to keep by endurance)

from the hour (ek tes hores) of trial  (peirasmou)

(out of the hour of trial)
or: (from the trial bringing temptation)

which shall come upon the whole world, to test / try  (peirasai)  those who dwell on the earth.

(peirasai; to tempt)

The Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words by W.E. Vine combined commentary on 2 Peter 2:9 and Rev. 3:10-12:

"The verb is used of testing as permitted by God, and of the believer as one who should be in the realization of his own helplessness and his dependence upon God.

"The noun is used of trials with beneficial purposes and effect, also of trials or temptations Divinely permitted or sent":

i.e. 2 Peter 2:9 “to prove” or “to try” and in Rev. 3:10 “trial or temptation”.

SUMMARY - Tribulation vs. Wrath Hermeneutics:

The correct linguistic distinction between “Tribulation” and “Wrath”, is essential for any accurate hermeneutical determination; regarding when it is applicable to apply the term “Rapture”.

Scripture provides no implicit, or explicit promise to believers, not to be subject to, “trials, temptations, tribulations, afflictions etc”.

However, Scripture does provide such an explicit promise from “wrath”, as noted above.

Greek word “Peirasmos” means:  “trials / testing / temptation / tribulation / affliction” etc., but it is misconstrued to be the equivalent of “wrath” (“Ebrah or Orges).

However, the meaning of “Ebrah / Orges” (wrath) more accurately connotes “the overflowing fury” of God.

Tribulation verses Wrath usage in Scripture:

Reference Matthew 24:5-31, and Revelation chapter 6:  for the following determination of when “wrath” is applied in scripture; as applied to the “End of the Age”.

The term  “Tribulation” (peirosmos), defined as a time of trials / testing / temptation, is applicable in Seals #1 thru #6 in Revelation chapter 6; as a time of trials for the elect, to determine if they will deny Christ.  Jesus called the first four seals of “tribulation” the “Beginning of Sorrows”,

Jesus in Matthew 24:15, 29 predicts that a “Great Tribulation” will occur following the “abomination of desolation”; also see Rev. 6:9-11 (5th seal).

Jesus then states in Matt. 24:29:  “Immediately after the tribulation of those days, shall the sun be darkened and the moon give no light, and the stars fall from heaven”.  This is also referenced in Rev. 6:12-17 (6th Seal).

The following Scriptures also clearly state, that the “sun and moon will turn dark and the stars will fall from heaven .. BEFORE the Day Of The Lord and His Wrath” to then deliver Judgment upon the unrepentant:

“The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible ‘Day of the LORD’ comes.”  Joel 2:1  (see also Joel 2:1,10,31,  Acts 2:17-21,  Isa. 13:9-11,  Rev. 6:17,  2 Peter 3:1012,  Zech. 14:1-6)

Note:  Joel 2:1 (above) refers to the 6th Seal mentioned in Rev. 6, and clearly states it as a required “sign” and prelude to God’s “wrath / over flowing fury” being poured out onto mankind.

“Behold, the Day of the LORD comes, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and He shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.   For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.”  Isa. 13:9-11

"For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;  And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God, ….  Be afraid of the sword for yourselves;  For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, That you may know there is a judgment."  Job 19: 25–28

"Come, My people, enter your chambers, And shut your doors behind you; Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past.  For behold, the LORD comes out of His place To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity …"  Isa 26:20-21

“For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”  Rev. 6:17

This first use of the word “wrath” in Revelation is at Rev. 6:17, and is a prelude statement to breaking the 7th Seal, which then allows OPENING of the SCROLL, thus releasing God’s wrath.

Consequently, upon man’s failure to repent, God's Permissive Will allows the first 6 seals of “tribulation” (see Rev. 6 and Matt. 24:5-9, plus vs.13,21,22,29).  The 7 trumpets and 7 Bowls of God's WRATH are then released upon the unrepentant of mankind (Rev. 8 – 16).

"Wrath" (Ebrah / Orges), introduced in Rev. 6:17, is only used in conjunction with the  "Day of the Lord" and His wrath”, after the 7th Seal  in Rev. 8 – 16, and as judgment upon the unrepentant.

Therefore any possible application of how or when to apply the word “rapture”, must first take into consideration the significant difference between the words “tribulation” and “wrath” and their usage in Scripture.

Jesus’ Olivet Discourse on the “End of the “Age”

And ‘SIGNS’ of His ‘Coming’:

Matt. 24:3-4  “And as He (Jesus) sat upon the Mount of Olives, the disciples came unto Him privately, saying, tell us, when shall these things be, & what  will be  the  Sign  of  Your Coming (Parousia),  &  the end of the world / age?  Jesus answered and said to them …”:

Matt.24:5    Jesus warns against deceptions of false Messiahs / Beliefs / Gods / Values.

Matt. 24:6   Wars

Matt. 24:7   Famine

Matt. 24:7   Pestilence & Earthquakes

Matt. 24:8  Jesus states that these things are the "Beginning of Sorrows"

Concurrently described by John as the 1st 4 “seals” in Rev.6:1-8

Jesus continues by describing additional events to follow:

Matt. 24:9   Tribulation & Martyrs  (Christians)

Concurrently in Rev. 6:9-11 as the 5th seal following the “Abomination of Desolation”.
Matt. 24:13  "He that endures to the end will be saved".

Matt. 24:15  When you see the Abomination of desolation by the antichrist … for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition … whom the Lord will consume … with the brightness of His coming  Parousia.

Matt. 24:21  "Then shall the Great Tribulation begin …"

Matt. 24: 22  “except it (the Great Tribulation) be shortened no flesh be saved, but for the elect’s sake, those days shall be shortened".  Note: The "elect" are Christ's "chosen"; Gentile or Israel believers in the Messiah, Who returns to gather His “elect” before the "Day of the Lord" & His wrath during the 7th sealAt this time, the “elect” are NOT Jews return to Israel, nor the faithful 144,000 of Israel protected by a seal of protection; from the wrath about to be unleashed Rev. 7:3-4. See also Rev. 9:4 (not hurt those sealed).

Matt. 24:29   Immediately after the tribulation (* “Peirasmos” i.e. trials) of those days, shall the sun be darkened and the moon give no light, and the stars fall from heaven. Concurrently described by John in Revelation 6:12-17 as the 6th Seal: The 6th Seal also signals the end of the “Great Tribulation”:  Immediately after the tribulation of those days then shall the sun be darkened and the moon give no light, and the stars fall from heaven.  The 6th Seal was also prophesied to come "before" the "Day of the Lord" & His Wrath (* “Ebrah”) at the 7th Seal. (“Ebrah”; the overflowing fury of God”).  See Links:  Joel 2:1, 10, 31, & 3: 14-15    Acts 2:20 (17-21)  Isa. 13:6,9-10  24:21-23   Zech. 14:1-62 Peter 3:10-12 and Amos 8:9

Matt.24:30-31   Then shall the Son of man come  (parousia)  …

“…with a great sound of a trumpet of God .”

&  gather  the  “elect” / "chosen"  (Pre Wrath Raptured)

Note that Jesus clearly states that after 'Tribulation' His return to gather the "elect" is only once (Parousia).  In contrast to the Pre-Tribulation rapture theory that has Jesus coming and going again three times.

Revelation continues to say that Jesus, the "Lamb of God" then delivers God's Judgment of His "Wrath" upon the unrepentant, i.e. Feast of Atonement.

Jesus then rules 1000 years during the Millennial Kingdom i.e. Jubilee.  In other words, Jesus stated that He comes and stays - Parousia

Zech. 9:14-16:  "And the LORD shall be seen over them, and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning: and the Lord GOD shall blow the trumpet, and shall go with whirlwinds of the south… And the LORD their God shall save them in that day as the flock of his people."

"For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the shofar (trumpet of God); and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and thus we shall always be with the Lord.” 1 Thess. 4:16-

PAROUSIA:

Reference:

JESUS’  “PAROUSIA” / COMING  *

Issues:

Jesus’ Coming and Staying Presence

vs.  Multiple Appearances of Jesus’ Return

Parousia” (Coming) is derived from two Greek words, ‘para’ meaning ‘with’, and ‘ousia’ meaning ‘being’.  Parousia, then denotes two things:

An arrival and a consequent presence with us

Paul uses the word parousia in the sense of his presence when he states:  “Wherefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence (parousia) only, but now much more in my absences …” Phil. 2:12

Paul is contrasting his presence to his absence

In other words Jesus comes (parousia) to us, and stays with us:

At Easter / Feast of First Fruits, and at Pentecost / Feast of Weeks, the gift of the Holy Spirit was given to us, and stayed with us.

See “Gifts of the Spirit”

This coming and staying presence of Jesus in the Spirit at His 1st coming is a direct foreshadowing of His 2nd coming and staying presence (parousia)

"But every man in his own order:  Christ the First Fruits; afterward they that are Christ's (the “elect” / chosen) at His coming"  (parousia).   I Cor. 15:23

Jesus' Parousia:

Matt. 24:5-31 Jesus' Mount of Olives Discourse:

False Messiah’s, Wars, Famine, Pestilence

                   “Beginning of Sorrows”

Abomination of Desolation

Great Tribulation

Sun and Moon turn Dark and Stars fall from Heaven.

Jesus comes to “gather the elect”

Jesus clearly states that He will return only one time to gather the "elect" after the ‘Great Tribulation'.  Revelation continues to say that Jesus, the "Lamb of God" then delivers the wrath of God's Judgment upon the unrepentant, i.e. Feast of Atonement, then rules 1,000 years during the Millennial Kingdom i.e. Jubilee. In other words He comes and stays.

Matt.24:30-31   "Then shall the Son of man come  (parousia)  …

“…with a great sound of a trumpet of God .”

&  gather  the  “elect” / "chosen"  (Pre Wrath Raptured)

Note that Jesus clearly states that after 'Tribulation' His return to gather the "elect" is only once (Parousia).  In contrast to the Pre-Tribulation Rapture theory that has Jesus coming and going again three times.

Revelation continues to say that Jesus, the "Lamb of God" then delivers God's Judgment of His "Wrath" upon the unrepentant, i.e. Feast of Atonement.
