Feast of Passover and JESUS' Crucifixion Dates
By FeastsoftheLord.net
The Crucifixion of JESUS
was on the day prior to the Feast of Passover; on Thursday the 13th day of
Nissan, died at the last hour of Temple Sacrifices, and buried at the start of Feast of Passover
at Sundown.
Feast of Passover starts on the 14th day of Nissan
at sundown on Thursday and finishes at sundown on Friday. The 1st day of Nissan is always a Sabbath; a Saturday.
So Feast of Passover is always 14 days later on a Friday; starting
at sundown on Thursday.
According to the Gospel of John, the Crucifixion occurred on Thursday, with Jesus’ death at 3 PM (the 9th
hour) at the start of Feast of Passover; also called a "High Sabbath".
Feast of Passover
is initiated at sundown on Thursday. Both John 19:14 and John 13:29 support the concept that the Last Supper was held on Wednesday evening. This would therefore have been one day prior to the Passover
Feast; which would have be held on Thursday evening:
John
13:29 refers to when Judas left the dinner amidst speculation by the disciples that he left to buy those things needed
for their celebration of the Feast of Passover.
John
19:14 then refers to the appearance of Jesus before Pilate which occurred at the sixth hour (Noon Thursday) during the “preparation
for the Feast of Passover” (Passover starts at sundown).
Feast of Passover
starts at sundown on Thursday. Jesus then died on the 9th hour (3 PM) on Thursday. This would have
been at the last hour Feast of Passover sacrifices were performed at the temple. Scripture
describes the 9th hour as darkened; and would therefore be the start of Feast of Passover at sundown.
Scripture states that they hurried to bury Him before the normal time for sundown
because the high Sabbath was approaching. Feasts are also considered to be a Sabbath and are referred to as "High
Holy days". This Sabbath would therefore have been the day of Feast of Passover, and started on Thursday at sundown.
So technically Feast of Passover was initiated at sundown and therefore Jesus
died on Feast of Passover, Thursday evening, which would mean that
Jesus was in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights.
