DANIEL 9:27 Hebrew Transliteration And English Equivalents
By Feasts of the
Lord.Net
Applied hermeneutics requires
a clear and literal ‘in-context’ grammatical analysis to determine a passage
of scripture’s exact meaning. The key question here is
verse 27 with the words "confirm" (gabar) and "covenant"
(beriyth), wherein gabar in it’s hyphil form "Higbir" (used in original Hebrew scripture)
means ‘confirm; confirm in reference to a covenant’;
and beriyth meaning a ‘pledge’ or ‘covenant’,
‘covenant between God and man’. It is also interesting that Gen. 15:18 uses
this same word ‘beriyth’, aka ‘covenant’ in
what is now termed the ‘Abrahamic covenant’.
Verse 27 is the final 1 period of 7 left in God's pledge to Israel and Jerusalem. In verse 24 God had determined
70 periods of 7 upon Israel and Jerusalem; and He has applied 69 of these
7s as a sign of the Messiah's coming. ‘In-context
grammatical interpretation and transliteration’ of Hebrew of words, applied
to the remaining 1 period of 7 can only be referring to the 70 periods
of 7 covenant. However, when verse 27 reads "He shall confirm the covenant", this
is in reference to the covenant / pledge God had made to the people (Israel), the Holy City (Jerusalem).
Obviously, God can only confirm His covenant with Israel and Jerusalem
IF they existed. This had not been the case from
70 A.D. to until the1948 formation of Israel and 1967 recapture of Jerusalem! Now that
they the people (Israel), and the “Holy City” (Jerusalem) exists, God’s’70
periods covenant / pledge’ will be completed. I.e. Just
as the first 69 periods of 7 announced the Messiah, God has now initiated a completion
of His full 70 periods of 7 covenant; for the final 1 period of 7 with His people and the Holy City:
Vs. 24b “To finish the transgression, and to
make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity,
and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint
the most Holy.” This is the ultimate purpose
of God’s covenant / pledge. In other words, a completion
of God’s plan of redemption for mankind! However, The Pre-Trib. interpretation
of the antichrist making a covenant
is not supported either grammatically or hermeneutically. This is
a heretical change in Scripture from the word "confirm" to "make".
Satan cannot / would not confirm God's pledge / covenant between God and man; as stated in verse 24
for the final 1 period of 7. This is Replacement Theology at its worst,
resulting in eliminating the most profound prophecies related to Yeshua's Return.
Can
you see how satan has virtually eliminated these 2 pledges by God to Israel, through this interpretation?
There is much more to this total topic, but this is a good start. Praying for our "rightly
dividing of the truth", that we may walk in His wisdom, led by His Spirit
King James Version
Dan. 9:24
Seventy weeks[a] are determined For your people and for your holy city, To
finish the transgression, To make
an end of[b] sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To
bring in everlasting righteousness, To
seal up vision and prophecy, And
to anoint the Most Holy. Dan.
9:27 And he shall confirm
the covenant with many for 1 period of 7 in the midst
of the week, he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation
to cease. And for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even unto the
consummation; and that determined shall be poured
upon the desolate. GABAR

Gabar is a Hebrew word which means “to
prevail, to have strength, to strengthen, to confirm, to confirm
(a covenant), to give strength, to be strong, to make strong, to be
powerful, to be mighty, to show oneself to be mighty, to be great”.
In no Hebrew dictionary or lexicon does Gabar mean “MAKE” .
The “Hiphil” “Perfect”
verb form which is used in Daniel 9:27, means “to confirm, strengthen”
or “to confirm (a covenant)”.
The
Hiphil verb form expresses the “causative” action of Qal.
Qal is the most frequently-used verb pattern. It expresses the “simple”
or “causative” action of the root in the active voice.
The
“Perfect” verb form expresses a completed action in reference
to time, such as:
One completed from the point of view of another action yet future.
The “Perfect” of intransitive verbs is used where
English uses the present.
The “Perfect” in Hebrew in such a case emphasizes a condition which has come into "complete
existence" and realization.
Sometimes in Hebrew, future events are conceived so vividly and so realistically
that they are regarded as having virtually taken place and are described
by the “Perfect”. Lexicon / Concordance for Daniel 9:27

Linguistic Hermeneutical
Principles to Be Applied “Hermeneutics is the art of finding the meaning of an author’s words and
phrases, and of explaining it to others.” Hermeneutical foundations must first be carefully
applied. To draw conclusions by any other means has no
value. Without such a foundation to determine the true
meaning of a passage of Scripture, conclusions are subject to personal opinions.
For instance in Dan. 9:24 and
27: On a hermeneutical basis; ‘What covenant is being confirmed’
in verse 24? 1. Is the grammatical chart presented correct or incorrect?
If correct, then the covenant being confirmed in verse 27 is God’s
covenant of 70 periods of 7 (in verse 24) for 1 period of 7. So,
God is confirming / strengthening His covenant! Therefore,
the antichrist cannot be confirming / strengthening God’s covenant,
or making a new covenant with Israel. 2. If incorrect, could you elaborate as to how
it is incorrect, both hermeneutically and grammatically?
Only by this hermeneutical manner of analysis can there be an accurate conclusion of it’s intended meaning;
based upon an accurate transliteration and consequential interpretation. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
IN CONTEXT: Guidelines include:
The examination of the verses as a unit of thought, in the immediate context, with the passage and book as a whole. Theologians instruct us that during Bible study, we cannot properly “determine the meaning of
a passage independent of the rest of Scripture”. Therefore,
when seeking the meaning of one passage we must seek unity
with all other Bible teachings related to it, particularly the words of Jesus. CLEAR AND LITERAL GRAMATICAL PRINCIPLES: Study the context of the passage and the theme of the book. Look up the actual meaning of each word in the original languages.
Note the verb
tenses, the cases, and other grammatical determinants. SCRIPTURE VERIFYING SCRIPTURE: Check out cross-references
how the words are used in contexts. See how the first mention of the
word or topic is presented Confirm interpretation with 2-3 similar passages
(synonyms).
Context is crucial within the larger narrative. Spurgeon:
Primary attention should
be given to the literal sense. “Understand each passage in its ‘first sense’; its literal or obvious meaning. The first sense of the passage must never be drowned it must be declared. Your understanding must never thrust out the original and native meaning, A passage should not be strained. Greatest rule of sound biblical
interpretation: let the Bible interpret itself.
