        BIBLICAL  CALENDARING OF  THE  FEASTS:

  By:   FEASTS OF THE LORD.NET

The Biblical Hebrew year is a lunar (moon) calendar 354 days long (in contrast to a solar year of 365.25 days per year) and comprised of 12 months with 29.530573496 astronomical days per month; except on leap years where an extra month is added in to adjust to solar reckoning.  To adjust a lunar calendar to solar reckoning, a leap month is added on the 3rd, 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 17th and 19th year based upon a 19 year cycle. Consequently the Hebrew biblical calendar for feasts becomes a lunar-solar calendar. Because the new moon is a sabbath and 1st day of the month, it determines when the feasts will be held. Consequently, the feasts always fall on the same day of the week every year.

In contrast to Jewish calendars of today:  Instead of adding a leap month (Adar II), today’s Jewish calendars superimpose a 354 day lunar calendar onto the Gregorian calendar of 365.2422 days per year (30.43685 astronomical days, per month, average).

Consequently the feasts then fall on a different day each year

This is not to be confused with the biblical prophetic calendar of years of 360 days long.  See Rev. 11:2-3, 12:6, 13:5 and Dan. 12:7-12 which indicate 42 months as equivalent to 3.5 years or 1260 days; 360 days per year.

The 1st day of each Biblical Month begins on a New Moon

(i.e. a Lunar Calendar) is a Sabbath and called “Rosh Hodesh”.

The Biblical New Year, and Feasts Start date in

Nissan (April or May):  See Ex. 12:2,  Num. 28:11-15, 29:1.

In contrast to the 7th Biblical month called Tishri: A secular New Year.

See Num. 29:1, 10:1-10, Lev. 23:24

7  FEASTS  OF  THE  LORD

per  LEV. 23

CALENDAR  DATES

PASSOVER Nisan 14     - Spring

The Crucifixion / Redemption by the Messiah – the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Redemption from bondage in Egypt after 430 years.  Believers in Christ redeemed from bondage of sin.

“Ye are not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold…but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.”   (I Peter 1:18-19).

UNLEAVENED BREAD  Nisan 15-21      - Spring

Sanctification by the Messiah’s sinless / pure sacrifice of Himself.

Purging of all leaven - symbol of sin.  All believers in Christ cleansed from sin and empowered to walk in newness of life.

Purge out…the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump… For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us” (I Corinthians 5:7).

“[God] made Him Who knew no sin, to be sin for us; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

(2 Corinthians 5:21)

FIRST  FRUITS  Nisan 16     - Spring

Resurrection from the dead by the Messiah Jesus on the third day as prophesied.

Thanksgiving for first-fruits, the promise of the harvest to come; first of the grain presented to God.  Christ, the First to rise from the dead – the promise of the resurrection and eternal life for all who believe in Him.

“But now is Christ risen from the dead, … the first-fruits of them that slept. … even so in Christ shall all be made alive”  (I Corinthians 15:20-22b)

FEAST OF WEEKS  50 days after First Fruits, 6th Day of the 3rd month; Sivan.  Summer

Messiah sent Holy Spirit to embolden their witness of His resurrection.

Thanksgiving for first harvest and according to oral tradition, the time of the giving of the Law of Sinai.

God’s first harvest of those redeemed in Christ (Jews and Gentiles)

God’s Law written on the hearts of the redeemed.

“And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, … they were all filled with the Holy Ghost.  The same day there were added unto them about 3000 souls”  (Acts 2:1-4, 41b

(SUMMER, A TIME OF LABOR IN THE FIELDS AND PREPARATION FOR FINAL HARVEST – THE CHURCH AGE)

“Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest”  (John 4:35)

TRUMPETS  Tishri 1      -  Fall

The restoration of Israel, the tribulation to cause repentance and ultimately judge the wicked, and the Messiah returns to rescue the righteous (Rapture).

A solemn assembly trumpets blown to prepare for the Day of Atonement.

The beginning of the regathering of Israel to the land in preparation for the final Day of Atonement.  The assembly of all believers, in the heavens with Christ

“I will gather them out of all countries, whither I have driven them…and I will bring them again into this place and I will cause them to dwell safely” (Jeremiah 32:37).  Israel gathered, the rapture of the church and the return of Christ.

ATONEMENT Tishri 10      - Fall

The wheat and chaff are separated and the righteous rewarded.

Israel repents of her sins and turns to the Messiah for salvation.

A solemn assembly for repentance and forgiveness under the Law.

Believers in Christ forgiven by one atonement for all time

The rest of Israel will repent and look to her Messiah.  “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many” (Hebrews 9:28)  “And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications; and they shall look on me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him.  In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and…Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness” Zechariah 13:10; 13:1).

Israel believes in Jesus the Messiah.

TABERNACLES Tishri 15-21     - Fall

Messiah sets up the messianic Kingdom and tabernacles among men.

Harvest celebration and memorial of tabernacles in the wilderness.  Joyous assembly – all peoples brought under the rule of the King Messiah.

“Every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles”  (Zechariah 14:16).

Kingdom of God on earth.  The New heavens and the new earth, the New Jerusalem.

DAY & HOUR  vs  A SEASON Of Our Lord’s Return:

"Of that day and hour know no man …"

However, Jesus rebuked those who did not anticipate

the Season of His Coming”:

Jesus said to the Pharisees, 'Hypocrites!

You know how to discern the face of the sky,

but you cannot discern the Signs of the Times' (Matt. 16:3).

The 5 wise virgins, 5 foolish virgins & the bride do not know the day

or hour of her bridegroom’s coming to take her away;

However, they DID know the ‘season’ of His coming.

The Magi, Nicodemus, Joseph of Arimathea and most of the

Apostles DID recognize the SEASON

of Jesus' coming prophesied in Scripture.

The Apostles asked Jesus: “Tell us WHEN shall these things be?

And WHAT shall be the SIGN of Your Coming, and end of the world?

Jesus responded clearly as recorded in Matthew 24:5-31.
