Dan. 9:24-27

24 "Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.

25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.

26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate."

Regarding Dan. 9:27: “He shall confirm the covenant” (70 periods of 7).

Confirm is from the Hebrew word higbir” (Hiph'il form of the verb Gabar) meaning “to confirm (a covenant), to strengthen”.

See: Hebrew / Geek Lexicon at www.blueletterbible.org, and "Covenant of the 70th Week"

However, the New American Standard (NASB) incorrectly translates “higbir” to the English verb: “to make” (“karat / poieo” in Hebrew / Greek) rather; than “to confirm” or “to strengthen”.

The NASB infers there was NO pre-existing covenant “to confirm” or “to strengthen”. This incorrect translation by the NASB literally changes Scripture, to it’s detriment.  "To make" is NOT synonymous with "to confirm".

NASB translation “to make” is used to heretically infer the Anti-Christ “makes” a “covenant with the people and the city of Jerusalem”, and consequently, causes major eschatological interpretation consequences!

This is Satan’s counterfeit at it’s best distorting God’s prophecy of Jesus’ Second coming!  The Pre-Tribulation interpretation uses this inaccurate translation to justify the Anti-Christ “making” a covenant with Israel; at the beginning of the 7-year ‘tribulation’ period.

It is imperative that a correct translation ‘to confirm’ or ‘to strengthen’ God’s covenant be applied, to show the importance of God’s continued covenant over the full 70 periods of 7s’ period; which includes “… the CITY OF JERUSALEM”.

Only God can “confirm” or  “strengthen” HIS COVENANT with “the people and the city of Jerusalem”.

Applied hermeneutics requires a clear and literal ‘in-context’ grammatical analysis to determine a passage of scripture’s exact meaning.

The key question here is verse 27 with the words "confirm" (gabar) and "covenant" (beriyth), wherein gabar in it’s hyphil form "Higbir" (used in original Hebrew scripture) means ‘confirm; confirm in reference to a covenant’; and beriyth meaning a ‘pledge’ or ‘covenant’, ‘covenant between God and man’.

It is also interesting that Gen. 15:18 uses this same word ‘beriyth’, aka ‘covenant’ in what is now termed the ‘Abrahamic covenant’.

Verse 27 is the final 1 period of 7 left in God's pledge to Israel and Jerusalem.

In verse 24 God had determined 70 periods of 7 upon Israel and Jerusalem; and He has applied 69 of these 7s as a sign of the Messiah's coming.

‘In-context grammatical interpretation and transliteration’ of Hebrew of words, applied to the remaining 1 period of 7 can only be referring to the 70 periods of 7 covenant.

However, when verse 27 reads "He shall confirm the covenant", this is in reference to the covenant / pledge God had made to the people (Israel), the Holy City (Jerusalem).  Obviously, God can only confirm His covenant with Israel and Jerusalem IF they existed.  This had not been the case from 70 A.D. to until the1948 formation of Israel and 1967 recapture of Jerusalem!

Now that they the people (Israel), and the “Holy City” (Jerusalem) exists, God’s’70 periods covenant / pledge’ will be completed.

i.e.  Just as the first 69 periods of 7 announced the Messiah, God has now initiated a completion of His full 70 periods of 7 covenant; for the final 1 period of 7 with His people and the Holy City:

Vs. 24b “To finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.”

This is the ultimate purpose of God’s covenant / pledge.  In other words, a completion of God’s plan of redemption for mankind!

However, The Pre-Trib. interpretation of the antichrist  making a covenant is not supported either grammatically or hermeneutically.  This is a heretical change in Scripture from the word "confirm" to "make".

Satan cannot / would not confirm God's pledge / covenant between God and man, as stated in verse 24 for the final 1 period of 7.  This is Replacement Theology at its worst, resulting in eliminating the most profound prophecies related to Yeshua's Return.

Can you see how satan has virtually eliminated these 2 pledges by God to Israel, through this interpretation?  There is much more to this total topic, but this is a good start.

Praying for our "rightly dividing of the truth", that we may walk in His wisdom, led by His Spirit.

Daniel 9:27 Basic Literal Translation

And God shall confirm His covenant (of 70 periods of 7 upon the people and the city of Jerusalem) with them for 1 period of 7.  In the middle of this 7-year period bloodless sacrificial offerings of thank-offerings, burnt offerings, grain offerings and meat offerings offered to God will cease; to the ends of the earth abominable detestable things make waste / desolate; God’s decree to accomplish complete destruction by the pouring out of His own anger / wrath.
